The mass burial of 81 childern who died in the Aberfan disaster. 10,000 mourners stood on the hillside as the short service was conducted. A huge cross made out of hundreds of wreaths from all over the world lay above the two 80 ft long trenches. At the time of the funeral, 6 days after the disaster, 10 bodies were still unaccounted for amongst the rubble.
