The front page of The Illustrated London News, reporting on the Aberfan disaster. An aerial view of the path of destruction left by the rain-soaked coal tip that slipped 500 yards down the mountainside into the mining village of Aberfan, Glamorgan, South Wales. The Pantglas infants and junior school, a farmhouse and a terrace of houses were engulfed in the slurry.
