A colourised postcard version of a drawing by Fortunino Matania which appeared the The Sphere, 2 January 1915. It illustrates an incident retold to the artist when a force of German infantry feigned to surrender, holding up a white flag, but then ambushed the members of the Northamptonshire Regiment who rose to accept the surrender.
