At Grawkill, near Belmullet, County Mayo, Ireland, police accompanying a process-server on his way to serve summonses for the rates are confronted by a gathering of local people. Showered with stones, the police responded with several unsuccessful charges, and then gunfire. The result was the death of two local women and injuries to both locals and police.
