Chiefs of the Mediterranean air command in spring of 1943. From left is, Air Vice Marshal Keith Rodney Park (1892 - 1975), Commander in Chief of Group 11, Air Command during World War II and mastermind of the Battle of Britain of 1940. Denied the German Luftwaffe air superiority and arguably prevented the Nazi invasion of Britain (Operation Sealion). Later commanded air defence in Malta and was appointed Allied Air Commander in South East Asia. Credited as 'The Defender of Britain'. Next is Major-General Carl Spaatz, commanding the North West African Air Forces; Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder, C-in-C Mediterranean Air Command, and Air Chief Marshal Sir Sholto Douglas, commanding Middle East Command.
