Portrait of Air Vice Marshal Keith Rodney Park (1892 - 1975), Commander in Chief of Group 11, Air Command during World War II and mastermind of the Battle of Britain of 1940. Denied the German Luftwaffe air superiority and arguably prevented the Nazi invasion of Britain (Operation Sealion). Later commanded air defence in Malta and was appointed Allied Air Commander in South East Asia. Credited as 'The Defender of Britain'. Pictured here in Malta about to fly a Spitfire. Park frequently used fighter aircraft to tour the island's aerodromes.
