Alaric I was the first King of the Visigoths and is most well known for his sack of Rome. During which, the Princess Placidia, the daughter of an emperor, half sister of two emperors, the wife of another emperor and the mother of yet another emperor, was captured by the barbarian king. At the age of 19 she was forced to serve Alaric, accepting humiliation. Placidia later went on to marry Alaric.
