Picture No 10216972
Date 1858
Description Alarm Buoy 1858
Details

An alarm, or marker, buoy designed by Brown, Lenox and Company of Millwall. This buoy featured a water-wheel in its centre which, through the motion of the water, rang the bell at the top of the buoy. Mr. Lenox believed that his design was an improvement over previous designs as the bell would still ring during the flat calms often associated with foggy days.
