Description | Alexander the Great and the broken ladder,326 BC |
Details |
Soldiers, enthused by Alexander the Great's example, swarm up a ladder, used to attack the fortified city walls of the Mallians. The ladder breaks under their weight, leaving their leader open to attack on the ramparts, but instead of leaping back to safety, Alexander fights on, into the enemies' midst: an example of his bravery, and rashness.
