Two examples of Allied Forces activity in German territory during the early stages of the First World War. Above, debris from a German motor convoy, wiped out by Allied guns and cleared to the side of the road. Below, an aerial view of Dusseldorf, where bombs were dropped on Zeppelin sheds. Inset, Flight-Lieutenant Charles Collet (or Collett) RN (1888-1915), a British naval airman who took part in the air raid.
