Details

Incense offering in Judaism was related to perfumed offerings on the altar of incense during the Tabernacle and the First and Second Temple period. It was an important component in the Temple in Jerusalem. Incense was burned daily on this altar during the morning and evening sacrifices. The incense that was used had to be made according to a specific formula, no other incense was allowed to be used. According to Jewish tradition, the incense was made by the Avtinas family, who kept the formula a closely guarded secret.
