Description | Arrival at Havana of Spanish Volunteers |
Details |
Arrival of Spanish volunteers at Havana to fight in the Ten Years War. Small boats carrying soldiers and bearing Spanish flags row towards the dock, where a crowd of townspeople stand pointing and watching. Cuba had wanted representation in Spanish government, and a stricter enforcement of the Slave Trade ban, and rebelled against an increasingly militant Spanish government. It ended in a Spanish victory in 1878, but many who fought would go on to fight in the more successful Cuban War of Independence in 1895.
