Arthur Bourchier in the role of Old Bill, the popular character created by Bruce Bairnsfather. Bourchier played the part in the original production of 'The Better 'Ole', a musical comedy based on the character, which was co-written by Bairnsfather and Arthur Elliot. Opening on 4 August 1917 at the Oxford Music Hall, London, it ran for over 800 performances.
