Two fortune seekers, one man shovelling up washed up dirty water into a cradle, another man pouring water while rocking it all the time. At one end of the cradle is a sieve, where all the dirt and sand is washed through and pebbles are thrown out. Gold brought approximately 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad, between 1848 to 1852.
