Friedrich Staps, a pastorÆs son from Erfurt, attempted to kill the French emperor with a knife which he had concealed inside his jacket as Napoleon was holding the review on the steps of the Parade Court at Sch÷nbrunn, Vienna. Staps was apprehended and executed by firing squad on 17th October 1809
