Crowd of Belgian people gathered outside the British consulate in Ostend, kissing the Union Jack. After some disbelief that the British would actually send troops to Belgium in 1914, the news that the British Expeditionary Force had begun its journey brought out a nocturnal crowd, demonstrating their joy.
