Description | Bloodbath at Cholula |
Details |
Cortes stopped at Cholula, and finding the nobles unresistant but supportive of Montezuma, massacred them in the main plaza before setting the city on fire. Most of the citizens had evacuated, but upwards of 3,000 people were killed as either a preemptive strike or to instill fear in the people of Tenochtitlan.
