Portrait of Captain John Henry Stephen Dimmer (1883-1918), of the King's Royal Rifle Corps, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on 12 November 1914 at Klein Zillebeke, Belgium when he remained at his gun post despite being shot five times. He was killed in action at Marteville, France on 21 March 1918. Pictured here in 1916 as a Brigade-Major with his bride, Miss Dora Bayley-Parker.
