'The dog that doesn't let go - and still breathes! One of the boys - the bulldog breed.' Illustration in The Sketch magazine to symbolise a speech at the London Opera House by Winston Churchill in September 1914 in which he said, "By one of those dispensations of Providence which appeal so strongly to the German Emperor, the nose of the bulldog has been slanted backwards, so that he can breathe with comfort without letting go."
