Details |
The first coming of light, early in the morning of Battle of Broodseinde during the First World War, as the "eye" of the artillery is finished its preliminary intensified firing, and the assaulting infantry go forward, observation-balloon officers are in the air and at work, reporting from baskets, slung beneath the sausage-like gas-bags. As the battle proceeds, it constantly happens that to get more advanced views, the observers are hauled down in order that their balloons may becarted off to ascend further forward.
