Heavy duty set of weighing scales with central pillars for weighing bars of gold. A bar of gold is on one side of the balances, the weights on the other. The balance was invented by Sir John Barton in 1820 for weighing gold coin and gold bars from a few ounces to 15 lbs in weight.
