Description Bursting of the Bilberry Reservoir, spreading destruction
Details

The bursting of the Bilberry Reservoir. Much destruction was caused by the flooding, bridges lost and buildings demolished. The power of the surge claimed many lives, people were carried by the water out of houses, or drowned in their beds. The inquest heard of the defective construction and the incompetence of the engineering and the management of the reservoir. A verdict of manslaughter was not possible as a whole corporation was in charge of maintaining Bilberry reservoir.
