Front cover of The Bystander magazine featuring an illustration by Fred Buchanan which is a pastiche of Bruce Bairnsfather's famous The Better Ole cartoon (in the same magazine), The image shows a typical British man wearing a khaki armlet to show that he has attested to enlist under the Derby Scheme, with Prime Minister Asquith who is prevaricating about the best way to raise the numbers of troops required for the war.
