Front cover of The Bystander magazine featuring a portrait of Elsie Mackay (1893 - 1928), aristocratic daughter of Lord and Lady Inchcape, actress, interior decorator and aviator, who lost her life attempting to cross the Atlantic east to west with Captain Hinchcliffe in a Stinson Detroiter. She is also known as Poppy Wyndham, the stage name she used following her marriage to Dennis Wyndham, which ended in divorce in 1922.
