Description Cadeby Colliery disaster, 1912
Details

Volunteer 'datallers' (day-workers) going to the pit after the Cadeby Colliery disaster to the first rescue party. 91 men were killed in total, 38 were workers and the remaining victims were in the rescue party which was devastated by a further explosion. A report afterwards criticised the rescue effort in which many untrained volunteers took part leading to higher numbers of men killed.
