Picture No 10129699
Date 1846
Description Canterbury Union Workhouse proposal
Details

An isometrical view of the proposed Workhouse to be built at Canterbury, Kent. The design was presented by Henry Parker, a former Assistant Poor Law Commissioner, at a meeting in November 1846, as an example that Workhouses need not be prison-like in their design. The workhouse subsequently built at Canterbury was similar to this proposal, though not exactly the same.
