Cartoon, A Bit of Animated Nature, the Protectionist Cuckoo in the Hedge Sparrow's Nest. A satirical depiction of Benjamin Disraeli, Conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer, as the cuckoo, and Lord John Russell (of the previous Liberal government) as the hedge sparrow. The Conservative government had just passed the Militia Bill by a large majority, the same Bill which the Liberal government had been unsuccessful with.
