Cartoon and portraits, Kluck! Kluck! A comment on the defeat of General Alexander von Kluck in the Battle of the Marne, turning the German invaders away from Paris in the early days of the First World War. Generals in the field were the French generals Joffre and Pau, and British general Sir John French. Organisers by land and sea were Lord Kitchener (War Minister) and Winston Churchill (First Lord of the Admiralty). At the centre is a cartoon of the British Bulldog seeing off a flock of German eagles.
