Details |
Cartoon, Land and Labour; or, How to Settle It. A comment on the current unrest over working conditions in agricultural districts, which resulted in the formation of the National Agricultural Labourers' Union. The landowner, Lord Broadacres (bearing a strong resemblance to the Duke of Bedford), speaks to a farmer about mending matters with Hodge, a farm labourer. The man on the right (bearing a strong resemblance to Joseph Arch, union president), is pasting up a strike notice, and is clearly seen as a troublemaker.
