Cartoon, The Modern Macheath -- satirical comment on Sir Robert Peel's apparent favouring of Agriculture at the expense of Manufacture (How happy could I be with either), in relation to the proposed repeal of the Corn Laws. A parody of a painting by G S Newton of 1826, Captain Macheath Upbraided by Polly and Lucy, depicting the three main characters from John Gay's The Beggar's Opera.
