Cartoon, The New Marshal -- a comment on a large and turbulent demonstration by the Reform League in Hyde Park which had taken place some months earlier. Some of the demonstrators had been led by a trade unionist, George Potter, seen here in the background. In 1871 Potter was elected the first President of the TUC.
