Charles Augustus Lindbergh (1902 - 1974), American aviator, author, inventor, explorer, and social activist. Photographed here on his first Orteig Prize-winning solo non-stop flight on the 20–21 May 1927, made from Roosevelt Field located in Garden City on New York's Long Island, Ireland and England then onto Le Bourget Field in Paris, France, the following day, a distance of nearly 3,600 statute miles (5,800 km), in the single-seat, single-engine.
