Description | Charles Lindbergh shakes hands with German officer, 1939 |
Details |
Colonel Charles LIndbergh, record breaking aviator, pictured shaking hands with a German officer, or, as The Sphere puts it, 'with one of his Nazi friends.' Lindbergh was an advocate of non-interventionism and spoke publicly about keeping the USA out of the war. Whether he was also pro-Nazi continues to be debated but he visited Germany on several occasions, first to investigate German aviation production, and considered moving there in the mid 1930s following the tragedy of the kidnapping and murder of his baby son.
