Claude Grahame-White, English pioneer of aviation, in April 1910 Grahame-White attempted to win the 'Daily Mail' newspaper prize of ú10,000, to fly across England from London to Manchester in 24 hours. Although Paulhan won the prize, Grahame-White's achievement was widely praised.
