Collecting the first weekly pension instalment at the post office. The Old Age Pension Act was introduced by David Lloyd George in 1908 with the first pensions available on the 1st of January 1909. Weekly payments were made to all those who had qualified for the benefit, a total of 528000 claims at the time.
