COMMANDER EDWARD. J SMITH (1853 - 1912), Captain of the ill-fated Titanic. Commander Smith was a highly regarded and experienced captain who had worked on a number of White Star Liners before captaining the Titanic. Smith went down with the Titanic; his last noted words were 'Be British'. Photographed in his summer white uniform when Captain of the RMS Olympic.
