Details

Wives and mothers of prisoners being held in La Roquette prison, at the end of the Paris Commune, 1871. These women had come to the gaol with letters for their loved ones, locked up inside. With the fall of the Commune, the French Army imprisoned and executed thousands in a purge of socialists in Paris.
