Description Conscientious objectors parade for a photograph 1916
Details

Many men refused to bear arms, for a variety of reasons. These men are Quakers and opposed to fighting on religious grounds. Unless they volunteered for roles such as this, under the aegis of the Red Cross, the men could be imprisoned. Later on in the war, military objectors enlisted in the specially formed Defence Corps.
