Details

Costermongers (London's traditional market traders) removing worn-out wooden blocks in Piccadilly, London. Until the beginning of the 20th century much of London was paved with wooden blocks. When the blocks 'wore out' they were dug up and sold to costermongers for re-sale as firewood.
