The surrealist artist, Salvador Dali (1904 - 1989), is photographed here with his painting, 'Vision of War', recently executed at the time for the first major retrospective of his work at The Museum of Modern Art in New York to open in April 1941. At the time he was also working on his autobiography, 'The Secret Life of Salvador Dali'. The artist and his wife, Gala, had moved to the United States in 1940 to escape the German occupation of France.
