Photograph showing the devastation in Aachen, Germany, after fighting between the German and Allied armies, October 1944. Two horses can be seen walking down the rubble strewn road. Adolf Hitler, the German Fuhrer, gave the order that there should be 'no surrender' in Aachen, making the battle that raged there particularly brutal and destructive.
