Description Dead beached whale at Birchington, Kent, 1914.
Details

Probably killed by striking and exploding a mine: a whale which, floating on the sea, caused the Margate lifeboat to put out to rescue 'the possible survivors of a sinking zeppelin'. The size of the wound to the body is marked by two white lines, and the total length of the body was 61 foot.
