Raymond Asquith (1878-1916), eldest son of Prime Minister H. H. Asquith, lawyer and member of the group of Edwardian intellectuals known as the Coterie. Killed in action at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette on 15 September 1916 was seen as symbolic of the end of the Edwardian era during World War I.
