The world's fastest woman miler: Diane Leather of Birchfield Harriers winning the women's mile in 4 minutes 45 seconds at an athletics meeting at the White City on 21st September 1955. Diane Leather (b.1933, British) is the first woman to run a sub-5 minute mile.
