Description Dodie Smith at home in Essex
Details

Dorothy Gladys (Dodie) Smith (1896 - 1990), English novelist and playwright whose works include the play 'Autumn Crocus' and the children's novel, 'One Hundred and One Dalmations' featured in The Sketch magazine in 1934 at her home in Essex, two former workmen's thatched cottages converted into one home named, 'The Barretts'. The editorial comments how fashionable types have lately chosen the Eastern counties of Essex and Suffolk for their country homes. Dodie can be seen in her garden, trying her hand at thatching and at the window of her study, lost in thought.
