Donald Stewart, of the British First West India regiment, which consisted almost entirely of kidnapped black men, kneels in preparation of his execution on 16th August, for leading a mutiny of 280 soldiers against the British. He was formerly an African Chief named Daaga, who sold Yoruba men into slavery before being captured himself. He was brought to Trinidad as a soldier, and renamed Donald Stewart.
