Dr. Frederick Albert Cook (1865 - 1940), American explorer, physician, and ethnographer, claims that he reached the North Pole on 21st April 1908, a year before Robert Peary. Cook observing with an sextant to determine his whereabouts, holding the instrument in his hand, measuring the angular distance between two visible objects.
