Description Draining off camphor oil, Formosa (Taiwan)
Details

The island's main industry, draining off camphor oil, Formosa (now Taiwan), which was at this time a Japanese province. After the camphor has crystallised, lumps of it are placed in wooden troughs and the essential oil is drained off into pans. It is then taken to the refineries for further treatment. The oil is used as an embrocation.
