A double page spread from The Illustrated London News, 27 January 1917, with sketches by the French war-artist Georges Scott illustrating a visit he had made to a French brigade headquarters near Verdun. Clockwise from top left: 1. An African soldier with a wounded hand; 2. The kitchen at brigade headquarters; 3. German prisoners escorted to the rear; 4. Dejeuner at a Brigade headquarters; 5.
