Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born 1921), opens International Geophysical Year on television in 1957 at Lime Grove Studios, Shepherds Bush, London. Behind the Duke can be seen the master map and to the right, partly blocked by the camera is the six foot glass globe of the world.
